Over 10 arrested for IPL betting across Noida and Pune

Noida

Noida police arrested seven individuals for alleged betting on IPL match between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians on Wednesday.

The seven individuals are identified as Aditya, Sachin, Jaidev Pandey, Nitish Jain, Prabhakar Pandey, Indu Kumar and Abhinav who are residents of Noida.

Speaking to the media, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), Shakti Avasthy said, “We got a tip-off about a betting syndicate, following which intelligence and electronic surveillance was used, and the accused were found at a house in Gijhore village by Sector 24 police team. They were placing bets on Wednesday’s match between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow SuperGiants teams.”

During the raid, the police also seized 15 mobile phones and four laptops along with Rs 4 lakh in cash that were being used to place bets using an online betting application. Bets were being placed on different aspects of the game like toss, runs per over, etc. as per The Times of India report.

An FIR has been registered against all seven under relevant sections of the Public Gambling Act and they currently await to be presented before a local court.

Pune

Six people were arrested by Pune City police for taking bets on the same IPL match from an apartment in Kharadi. All the arrested individuals are from different states.

A team headed by senior inspector Bharat Jadhav raided the apartment where all six were believed to be betting on the match. Reaching the apartment, the police found six individuals with 16 cell phones, two laptops, a Wi-Fi router and other items worth over Rs 4 lakh.

The arrested individuals are identified as Gaurav Dharamvani, Jaspreet Singh and Tarandeep Singh from Punjab, Sunil Lakhwani and Japjeetsingh Bagga from Chhattisgarh, and Lal Kishore Ram from Bihar.

“Accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 420 and 34, and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Gambling Act and the Indian Telegraph Act. Further investigation is on,” said investigating officer, Aniket Pote as quoted by The Indian Express.
