A fire broke out at the entrance of ‘Big Daddy Casino’ around 5pm yesterday when the vessel was docked on the banks of Mandovi river in Panaji.
According to a report by Dainik Gomantak, the team onboard was able to bring the fire under control in time avoiding any form of major damage. The staff quickly turned on the fire alarm and used fire extinguishers to bring the situation under control.
The word about the incident spread as a crowd of onlookers gathered to see what happened. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is not known yet.
Big Daddy Casino is one of the six offshore floating casinos in Goa and is owned by Gopal Kanda. Both the casino owner and the casino have seen their fair share of controversies as Kanda was accused of being involved in the Geetika Sharma suicide case.
Sharma, who worked as an air hostess, in her suicide note accused Kanda of harassment. He was charged u/s 306, 506, 201, 120B, and 466 of the IPC, but they were dismissed by the Delhi High Court.
Big Daddy Casino was also recently accused of having links with casino organizer Chikoti Praveen. According to reports, Praveen allegedly ran an entire floor inside the casino. A company official, however, denied all those allegations.
“We would like to clarify that Mr Chikoti Praveen Kumar is not associated with Big Daddy Casino in any capacity,” the casino said in a statement.
The casino was also in the news early last year when Sachin Tendulkar shared that it used his morphed images to promote itself on social media. The legendary cricketer had also said that he planned to initiate legal action against the casino company.
