Mahadev Book: Noida police arrest wanted operative

Noida Police arrested one of the wanted members of the Mahadev Book illegal betting network on Saturday, December 16.
The accused is a Jhansi resident named Himanshu Kumar who has reportedly duped several people and has a major involvement in the illegal betting app scam. A case against Kumar was filed under the Gangster Act however, he was able to get bail and was absconding till now as per AmarUjala.
Speaking to the media, Sector 39 police station in-charge Inspector Jitendra Kumar Singh revealed that they received information about Kumar’s whereabouts. The police acted swiftly and arrested him near Mahamaya Expressway.
Back in November during his initial case, 17 other individuals working with Kumar were also charged under the Gangster Act. These individuals used to conduct operations for Mahadev Book through various hideouts.
Their work ranged from luring in people, opening bank accounts with stolen IDs and moving money through hawala channels. Further investigation has revealed that the network is not limited to India only but has also spread across Dubai, Singapore, Nepal, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
Other states’ police also taking action
While the Enforcement Directorate is already investigating the Mahadev Book illegal betting app scam, police across different states are also taking actions against the operatives in order to take down the betting syndicate faster.
As per many reports, Chhattisgarh is considered the base of operations however, the police in the past one year, have reportedly made over 500 arrests in the case across the state.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai police has also taken action against Mahadev Book operatives recently and filed an FIR against 34 individuals for links with the illegal betting network. The crime branch has now formed an SIT for further investigation in the matter.
