Society against Gambling Trust (SAG) has addressed a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding putting a stop to the rampant operations of illegal offshore gambling companies and an event which is going to see participation from those companies early next year in Goa.

As its name suggests, SAG works towards creating awareness against the ills of betting and gambling. The motive of the letter is to make the home minister aware of the several socio-economic issues being faced by the youth of the country due to their participation in and addiction of illegal gambling.

So far, the illegal betting and gambling platforms had only provided betting services. However, it appears that have now started organizing events to reach more audience and raise their influence as mentioned in the letter by SAG.

The letter cites the upcoming Strategic Platform for iGaming Conference & Exhibition India (SPiCE) event that is set to take place from February 27-29, 2024 in Goa and is being hosted by Hong Kong-based company Eventus International.

Notably, the major sponsors for the event include illegal betting and gambling platforms such as 1xBet, Mega Pari, Melbet, All Bet, DST Gaming etc, the letter stated. All of these platforms are banned in India.

The event is also expected to include the attendance of people who are being paid to promote these illegal betting platforms to innocent attendees. SAG believes that organizers of the event Yudi Soetjiptadi, Lou-Mari Burnett, Josh Blom and others will also be present and has requested intervention from the home ministry, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the immigration authorities to disallow them from entering the country or detain them upon arrival.

Furthermore, the New Delhi-based trust has also requested appropriate action to be taken against the local organizers of the event and stop these illegal betting platforms, who launder proceeds of crime, from hosting similar events in the future.
