In a significant development, the Bilaspur High Court in Chhattisgarh has approved the bail plea of Anil Dammani, an accused in the Mahadev Betting app case. The court granted temporary medical bail to Dammani for a period of eight weeks, with a bail bond of one lakh rupees as reported in Amar Ujala.
During the bail plea hearing, Dammani referred to an accident that occurred 12 years ago on his medical grounds. He stated in court that the accident resulted in multiple injuries to his body, leading to the necessity of several implants. Now, one of the implants needs to be removed as it is causing a blockage in the blood flow. Dammani also mentioned his diabetic condition and his previous admissions to the jail hospital and district hospital.
However, while accepting Dammani’s latest bail plea, the court imposed restrictions on his movement outside the state of Chhattisgarh without prior notification to the court. Additionally, Dammani is required to submit relevant documents related to the case during his bail period. The court has also prohibited Dammani from making any statements to the media about the case during the bail period. He is expected to surrender by 4 p.m. on April 12.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team investigating the Mahadev Betting app case had conducted raids in Raipur and Durg in August 2023, resulting in the arrest of the Dammani Brothers. An earlier bail application was rejected on September 21, 2023 as reported earlier.
This development adds another layer of complexity to the Mahadev Betting app case, which has been under lot of scrutiny for its alleged involvement in illegal online betting activities. As the legal proceedings unfold, the court’s decision on Dammani’s bail provides a temporary respite, and the case continues to draw attention for its implications on the broader issue of online gambling and related legalities.
