Gurugram Police busted an IPL betting racket operating from a residence in Surya Vihar, Sector-9, leading to the capture of four men. According to police officials, the raid was conducted late on Monday night while the suspects were actively engaged in betting on a match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, reported MSN.com.
The arrested individuals are Ravi Kumar (28) and Pravesh Ram (27) from Rewari, and Amit Kumar (29) and Sandeep Kumar (30) from Bhiwani. Law enforcement officers recovered fifteen mobile phones, laptops, and other implicating objects from their possession.
The police investigators revealed that the suspects were coordinating with multiple people across various states and even overseas through phone calls and WhatsApp communication. Ravi and Pravesh were identified as the masterminds behind the racket, operating from Gurugram. They were believed to be in contact with their bosses located outside Haryana. They accepted bets from punters based on the instructions of their bosses.
The house where they were running these illegal activities was rented out just a month ago, exclusively for running the betting operation. The police have found out that these suspects maintained an extensive network of WhatsApp groups on their phones. The authorities have conducted a detailed interrogation to discover the identity of the other members of this betting nexus and their collaborators.
Public Relations Officer of Gurugram police, Sandeep Kumar, revealed that the crackdown was carried on based on a tip-off received by the Sector-39 crime branch unit regarding suspicious individuals carrying laptops and other equipment. He added that further investigations were underway. The police are trying to find the bank account details associated with the illegal operations.
