The Income Tax (IT) Department team from Mumbai has seized crores in benami (undisclosed) properties belonging to ‘Betting King’ Ramesh Chaurasia in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district. Allegedly Chaurasia purchased 1,500 bighas of land across four villages along the Ganges River in Uttar Pradesh reported Haribhoomi. IT officials have seized and closed access to the area, placing boards declaring the land is now the property of the Income Tax Department, barring his land from being sold or purchased.
Kanika Narula, the Deputy Commissioner of the Mumbai Income Tax Department, conducted a thorough investigation into the properties of recently arrested Ramesh Chaurasia. The investigation revealed that he had over 1,500 bighas of benami land in Dhanaura tehsil, bought under four different company names. The value of the land is estimated to be a few crores, reported Live Hindustan.
The IT department received the information that Ramesh Chaurasia has purchased 4500 bighas of land under the names of various trusts and companies.
So far, the IT department have tracked down 1500 bighas of land. Ramesh Chaurasia’s company ARC Agro Chemical LLP owns land in 19 different plots in Sihali. Few other plots are purchased under ARC Agriculture LLP. Another company, Adesh Agriculture LLP, owns land in Sihali Meo and Jalal Nagar, and Adesh Agri Farm LLP, owns land in Sihali Meo, Sikri Khadar, Tigri, and Hashampur Khadar.
The team is still looking for the remaining 3000 bighas of land in the Khadar area. On Saturday 18th May, a four-member team led by Mumbai Income Tax Deputy Commissioner Kanika Narula, accompanied by police personnel, visited the area and conducted land measurements with the help of revenue officials.
Although the team from Mumbai has now returned, the local authorities stated that they are searching for more land-related documents. The name of Chaurasia’s partner has also cropped up in this regard. The name of any local person hasn’t been associated with these land deals as of yet. The investigation is still ongoing and more details are expected soon.
