Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach of team India, has approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider Morne Morkel as the bowling coach for the national team.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Gambhir is eager to bring on board former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel as the new bowling coach as he has substantial coaching experience.

Following Gambhir’s recent appointment as head coach, BCCI is now focusing on appointing the rest of the support staff ahead of the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka.

Notably, the former South African bowler served as a coach for the Pakistan team during the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. He also guides Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowling off the field during IPL.

Besides Morkel, reports suggest that Gambhir is interested in including Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate in the support staff. The new coaching setup is expected to begin with the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka
