Following Ricky Ponting’s departure from Delhi Capitals, there are now reports that captain Rishabh Pant might part ways with the franchise before the IPL 2025 season and join Chennai Super Kings. 

Ricky Ponting joined Delhi Capitals in 2018, steering the team to their first finals appearance and securing play-off spots twice. However, in recent years, Delhi Capitals have faced challenges, and failed to make it to the play-offs. 

Sourav Ganguly, the Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals, advised the team to consider an Indian coach after Ricky Ponting struggled to lead the franchise forward. There is also a chance that Ganguly himself might step in as the head coach. 

Rishabh Pant Might Leave Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant’s future with Delhi Capitals is reportedly uncertain following Ricky Ponting’s exit. The wicketkeeper-batter shares a strong bond with Ponting, which could influence his decision to leave the team. 

Ponting was instrumental in promoting Rishabh Pant to team captain in 2021. Despite Shreyas Iyer leading Delhi to the 2020 finals, the franchise decided to release him in next auction and appoint Pant as the new captain.
