However, there’s an unexpected twist: it’s not just Gautam Gambhir who favours Suryakumar Yadav as the next Indian T20 captain. Former captain Rohit Sharma also supports Suryakumar Yadav over Hardik Pandya for the role. 

Hardik Pandya, the star all-rounder, likely isn’t pleased with this decision by the Indian cricket team, especially after leading India on various occasions in Rohit Sharma’s absence and serving as vice-captain during the T20 World Cup 2024.

Reports suggest that Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma see Suryakumar Yadav as a potential captain for the Indian T20 team with the 2026 T20 World Cup in mind. 

Meanwhile, fans speculate that Rohit Sharma might be seeking revenge on Hardik Pandya for the captaincy dispute during IPL 2024 with Mumbai Indians. 

Notably, Mumbai Indians removed Rohit Sharma, the five-time IPL winning captain, from his position just before IPL 2024 and appointed Hardik Pandya as the new captain. Reports suggest that this decision did not sit well with Rohit Sharma or the team.
