England, on Thursday (July 18) registered the fastest team fifty in the history of Test Cricket. They did it on the first day of the second Test against West Indies at Trent Bridge.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat, England raced to 50 runs in just 26 balls (4.2 overs), surpassing the previous record of 27 balls set by England themselves against South Africa at The Oval in 1994.

Openers Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope tore into the West Indies bowling, forging a quick partnership despite the early dismissal of Zak Crawley for a duck. The duo smashed a flurry of boundaries, reaching the record-breaking fifty.

Ben Duckett continued his onslaught, reaching his own fifty in just 32 balls, the fastest Test half-century by an England opener.

Fastest Team 50s in Test Cricket:

  • 4.2 overs – England vs WI, Nottingham, 2024 (New Record)
  • 4.3 overs – England vs SA, The Oval, 1994
