Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team, had his past remarks on Sanju Samson go viral after the keeper-batter was omitted from the squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka on Thursday. A major talking point was Sanju Samson‘s omission from the 50-over squad, who scored century in his last ODI match.

With Gautam Gambhir facing backlash for Sanju Samson’s omission, some of his old statements about the keeper-batter have gone viral. In one of his old tweets, Gambhir called Samson as the best youngest keeper batter in India. Here’s what he exactly wrote:

“Sanju Samson is not just the best wicketkeeper-batsman in India but the best young batsman in India! Anyone up for debate?”

Additionally, after Sanju Samson scored a century against South Africa in Paarl, Gautam Gambhir stated during an interaction on Star Sports that the Kerala keeper-batter would now get a consistent run due to his impressive performance.

“But today, the way he made a big score, I believe that hopefully he will get a consistent run from here and you will get to see Sanju Samson’s best.”

Even though Gautam Gambhir has been an advocate for Sanju Samson, his choice to leave Samson out of the ODI squad during his debut as head coach of Team India has led fans to label him a hypocrite.
