Australian selectors are considering a major shake-up for the upcoming Test tours against India and Sri Lanka, with Glenn Maxwell set for a potential return to the red-ball setup.

Maxwell, who last played a Test in 2017, was part of the 2022 Sri Lanka touring squad but didn’t make the final cut. This time around, with David Warner retired, Glenn Maxwell‘s chances have grown significantly.

The proposed Sri Lanka Test XI could see a revamped batting order with Travis Head potentially opening alongside Steve Smith in a reversal of their usual positions. Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis and Alex Carey will be in the middle order.

Maxwell would likely slot in as a spinning all-rounder at number seven or eight, followed by captain Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, and the emerging talent Matt Kuhnemann, who impressed during the 2023 tour of India.

Talking about numbers, Glenn Maxwell has played 7 Test matches for Australia in which he has scored 339 runs at an average of 26.08. He also has eight wickets to his name.
