Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra was taken aback by the T20I squad announcement for the Sri Lanka series. Kuldeep Yadav, who played a crucial role in the last T20 World Cup, was replaced by Ravi Bishnoi, and Washington Sundar took the spot of Yuzvendra Chahal.

Aakash Chopra described Kuldeep’s omission as ‘surprising,’ especially after their World Cup win. He also raised concerns about Ravindra Jadeja’s omission from the ODI squad and Yuzvendra Chahal’s exclusion from T20Is.

Here’s what Aakash Chopra said on YouTube channel:

“Kuldeep Yadav’s name is not there in T20 cricket. It’s very surprising because the guy has come just now after winning the World Cup but his name is not there in T20 cricket. Has something happened that we don’t know about? He is going with the ODI setup. I have got no idea why he isn’t playing T20Is.”

“Yuzi Chahal also comes to mind. You were just now part of the World Cup. After that, you are nowhere. Ravindra Jadeja is also not part of ODI cricket. What’s happening there? He has himself retired from T20Is but would have been available in ODIs. If he is available and is not being played despite that, has Team India started looking in some other direction?” he added.

Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was outstanding in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe has failed to secure a spot in either of the squads for Sri Lanka tour. Shubman Gill has been rather picked up in the squad and also being appointed as the vice-captain.
