Ex-Indian all-rounder Abhishek Nayar and Dutch batter Ryan ten Doeschate, who worked with Gautam Gambhir in the IPL 2024 during his mentorship of the Kolkata Knight Riders, are set to join the coaching staff of the Indian men’s cricket team for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

India’s cricket team is set to visit Sri Lanka next week for a three-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series. As reported by Cricbuzz on Saturday, Nayar and ten Doeschate have been appointed assistant coaches, while T. Dilip remains the fielding coach.

Morne Morkel Likely to Become Bowling Coach

Reports also suggest that former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel, who played under Gambhir’s leadership at KKR and worked with him at LSG for two years, is a leading contender for the role of the new bowling coach of the Indian cricket team.

The BCCI is expected to officially announce Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of Team India on July 22, and will hold a press conference in Mumbai with the new T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav.
