The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly set to send an invitation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a T20I bilateral series at a neutral venue in 2025.
This comes amidst ongoing discussions regarding the hosting of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, with India expressing security concerns.
According to PCB sources, chairman Mohsin Naqvi is expected to propose the T20I series to BCCI secretary Jay Shah during their meeting at the ICC’s annual conference in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The proposed series could be played during a window free for both teams following the Champions Trophy.
The Champions Trophy itself is a point of contention. India has hinted at the possibility of their team not travelling to Pakistan due to security and political tensions. The ICC is considering a potential relocation of the tournament to a neutral venue.
Pakistan Firm on Hosting Champions Trophy
Pakistan, however, remains adamant about hosting the Champions Trophy within their borders. The PCB has assured the BCCI of top-notch security arrangements, including the Indian team’s stay in a single hotel throughout the tournament located near the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
While the PCB hopes to convince India to tour Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, the final decision rests with the Indian government. India previously opted out of travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup last year, which was later held in Sri Lanka, including the final.
When India and Pakistan Last Played a Bilateral Series?
Pakistan and India have not played a bilateral series since 2012, with their cricketing encounters limited to ICC and ACC tournaments due to political tensions. This proposed T20I series, if accepted by India, could mark a significant development in cricketing relations between the two nations.
