Sri Lanka has unveiled a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India, scheduled to kick off on July 27 in Pallekele. A significant development in the team is the appointment of middle-order batter Charith Asalanka as the new captain.

Asalanka takes the reins from Wanindu Hasaranga, who stepped down from the role following Sri Lanka’s early exit from the T20 World Cup in June. Despite the captaincy change, Hasaranga remains a crucial member of the team and will be guided by former opening batter Sanath Jayasuriya as the coach.

The squad sees the return of Dinesh Chandimal, who was omitted from the T20 World Cup squad. Meanwhile, veteran all-rounder Angelo Matthews has been dropped from the team.

Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana have also been included in the squad. Both bowlers impressed in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League, with Pathirana finishing second in the wicket-takers’ chart with 15 scalps.
