Rahul Dravid is reportedly eyeing a return to the IPL, with talks underway with Rajasthan Royals for the head coach position. Dravid recently wrapped up his role as the head coach of the Indian men’s team post the 2024 T20 World Cup.  

Dravid is no stranger to Rajasthan Royals, having previously captained the team as their second skipper after the late Shane Warne. However, this time he will be returning to the team as the head coach. 

The Times of India has reported that Rahul Dravid’s association with Rajasthan Royals as their new head coach is almost confirmed, with a formal announcement anticipated anytime soon. 

“Talks are going on between RR and Dravid, an announcement in his regard is round the corner,” TOI quoted a source as saying.  

So far, Dravid has kept silent about his future plans. In his final address as coach, moments after India clinched the T20 World Cup, Dravid humorously remarked that he is now ‘unemployed’ and open to any offers.  

Rahul Dravid To End Rajasthan Royals Trophy Drought? 

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals, despite their well-rounded team, could not secure the title. Following an impressive mega auction in 2022, expectations were high, but they finished the three-year period with one finals appearance and one playoff spot.  

In the 2024 edition, Rajasthan Royals had a strong start to the season but a series of losses in the latter stages cost them a top-two finish, leading to their elimination by SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 2. 

If Rahul Dravid joins Rajasthan Royals, it will be fascinating to see if he can lead them to an IPL title, ending their trophy drought since their victory in the inaugural season.
