In a major blow for South Africa’s cricket team, Gerald Coetzee, the promising fast bowler, has been sidelined for the two-match Test series against the West Indies scheduled for next month.
The young fast bowler suffered a left side strain while playing for the Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 earlier this month, which has compelled him to pull out of the important tour.
Following his return from the MLC, Coetzee underwent comprehensive evaluations by the Proteas medical team, which led to the decision not to approve him for the Caribbean tour.
Migael Pretorius Replaces Gerald Coetzee
To cover Coetzee’s absence, the Proteas have brought in Migael Pretorius from the North-West Dragons. The 29-year-old is making his return to the Test squad after nearly a four-year hiatus.
Although Pretorius has yet to debut in Test cricket, he brings extensive first-class experience to the squad. With 188 first-class wickets to his name, he has demonstrated consistent performance in longer formats.
Recently, he took 23 wickets in eight matches while playing for Somerset in England’s County Championship.
