A dominant display by Faf du Plessis and his bowlers propelled the Texas Super Kings into the Challenger stage of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024, as they trounced MI New York by nine wickets in the Eliminator at Dallas.

Batting first, MI New York found themselves in deep trouble as the Texas bowling attack choked the life out of their innings. It was only a late blitz from Rashid Khan (55 off 30) that propelled New York to a respectable total of 163/7.

Aaron Hardie and Marcus Stoinis were the standout bowlers for Texas, picking up two wickets each.

In reply, Faf du Plessis took charge and single-handedly dismantled the MI New York bowling attack. His blistering knock of 72 off 47 laid the foundation for an easy chase.

Devon Conway (51*) and Aaron Hardie (40*) finished the job with consummate ease, guiding Texas home with nine wickets in hand.

The defeat brings an end to MI New York’s title defense, while Texas Super Kings will now face the loser of the first qualifier between Washington Freedom and San Francisco Unicorns in the Challenger.
