Despite objections from major stars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to keep the impact player rule intact in the IPL 2025.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has scheduled a meeting with the owners of all ten IPL franchises on July 31 to outline plans for the upcoming mega auction.

The purpose of this meeting is to address key aspects of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Franchises are looking for clarity on player retention policies, the potential reintroduction of the Right to Match (RTM) option, and whether the Impact Player rule will remain in effect for IPL 2025.

“We will discuss each and every factor with the franchises and decide on the future course of action accordingly. We want a healthy discussion, and the only objective is to ensure that all franchisees get an equal opportunity,” a source in the BCCI was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

Mega Auction Every 5 Years, 5 Retention Picks, 8 RTMs

In another significant move, the franchises have requested IPL CEO Hemang Amin to hold the IPL mega auction every five years. They also proposed allowing each team up to five retention picks and providing eight Right to Match (RTM) options per franchise.

While certain franchises have pushed for as many as eight retention picks, the BCCI is expected to approve only five. There may also be further discussions about the number of Right to Match (RTM) options available to each side.
