India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has opened up about Indian batting legend Virat Kohli, stating that no matter who the captain is, Virat Kohli remains the leader of the team.

Jasprit Bumrah, the star performer for the Indian cricket team during the T20 World Cup 2024, recently shared his insights in an interview with The Indian Express, where he also talked about Virat Kohli.

Notably, Virat Kohli stepped down from the India T20I captaincy after the team’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2021. He later relinquished the ODI and Test captaincy as well.

Rohit Sharma was appointed as the all-format captain after him. However, while Rohit has been captain for a couple of years now, Jasprit Bumrah believes that Virat Kohli remains the leader of the team.

Here is what Bumrah said:

“Virat Kohli is still a leader in the team; he might not be the captain.”

The Indian fast-bowling star, Bumrah, further praised Rohit Sharma, stating that he always ensures there is no senior-junior hierarchy in the team and always makes everyone feel equally important.

“Rohit Sharma makes youngsters feel there’s no junior and senior in the team. He doesn’t let them think that this is not their team. He always makes them feel that they’re a very important part of this team.”

Bumrah also stated that Rohit Sharma always has empathy for the bowlers. He added:

“A captain needs to have empathy towards bowlers, and Rohit Sharma is one of the few captains who has empathy for bowlers.”

Jasprit Bumrah is likely to make a return during the Bangladesh Test series, as he has taken a break from the Sri Lanka tour.
