Ravi Shastri is excited about what Gautam Gambhir will bring to the table as the new head coach. In a recent talk with ICC Review, Shastri called Gambhir a no-nonsense guy and is confident he’ll shake things up with fresh ideas.
Gambhir helped KKR clinch the IPL title in 2024 as their mentor, giving the team a major boost after a few up-and-down seasons. He’s also added fresh faces to the support staff, including Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, who are already with the Indian squad in Sri Lanka.
Here’s what Ravi Shastri said:
“I think he’s [Gambhir] the right age where he’s young, he’ll come with fresh ideas. He knows most of the players, especially in the white-ball format, having been part of teams in the IPL. So I think it’s refreshing.”
“And we know with Gautam, he’s a no-nonsense guy. He’ll have his ideas as well. And the good thing for him is he’s got a mature team. He’s got a settled team, a mature team. I think even though you might think you’re mature, you might benefit from some fresh ideas. So I think it’ll be interesting times.”
The upcoming Sri Lanka tour is the first ever assignment of Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the Indian cricket team and he will be eager to kick it off with a bang.
