The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Saturday that their men’s cricket team is set to face New Zealand in a single Test match, scheduled to take place from September 9–13 in Greater Noida.

This match will be Afghanistan‘s first Test against the Black Caps since they were granted Test status in 2017 and played their first Test against India at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in 2018.

The Greater Noida venue is one of the designated venues for Afghanistan’s home games, following an agreement between the ACB and BCCI.

Chairman Mirwais Ashraf addressed the upcoming Test against New Zealand by expressing his hope that it will lead to a more regular schedule of white-ball bilateral series in the future. He mentioned, according to cricket.af:

“We are delighted to host a quality New Zealand Test team for the first time in our cricketing history. This is a testament to the hard work we have put in through numerous discussions and meetings with different boards on the sidelines of the various ICC Board Meetings.

“The Blackcaps are an outstanding all-format team in world cricket, and we hope to reach an agreement with New Zealand Cricket for white-ball bilateral matches in the future.”

Out of 10 Test matches played, Afghanistan have secured victories in three, with wins against Ireland, Zimbabwe, and Bangladesh.
