Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav shared his thoughts on India’s 43-run triumph over Sri Lanka in the first T20I match of the three-match series held on Saturday, July 27, at Pallekele Stadium.
While chasing a target of 214 runs, openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis put up a terrific performance, but the Indian bowlers stepped up at the right moment, restricting the hosts to 170 runs.
Following the match, Suryakumar Yadav stated that the Men in Blue were fortunate to avoid dew in the second innings, and also said that they were aware of how the pitch would behave at night.
“We were fortunate that there was no dew. The way we played in the World Cup, that reminded us that the game was still too far. They were playing a good brand of cricket from ball one. They were keeping the tempo, credit goes to them. We know how the wicket plays in the night,” Suryakumar said in the post-match conference.
Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh each claimed two wickets, while Riyan Parag delivered an exceptional performance, taking three wickets for just five runs in his two overs.
