This follows reports in Pakistan suggesting that Shaheen Afridi might replace Babar Azam as the captain of the white-ball teams after a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign.
In an interview reported by cricketpakistan.com.pk, Shaheen Afridi confirmed that he is not taking up the captaincy of Pakistan in any format. He also opened up on reports of him being dropped from the Bangladesh Test series.
Here’s what Shaheen Afridi said:
“All team members are my friends. I was raised well, and I always fight for my country. I never think about captaincy. My prime focus is to represent my country and never bring negativity into the team.”

Following the T20 World Cup 2024, reports emerged suggesting that Shaheen Afridi had acted inappropriately with the head coach, other coaches, and teammates, and was allegedly forming cliques within the team.
Once the issue came to light, reports indicated that the Pakistan Cricket Board was considering disciplinary action against the bowler and might drop him from the Bangladesh Test series. Here’s what the left-arm pacer said on the report:
“I don’t know if I’m being dropped from the Test series [against Bangladesh]. My role is to play cricket, and I would do that with dignity,” he added.
Pakistan is set to play two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting from August 21.
