The Lanka Premier League (LPL) is all set to expand its wings and add a sixth team to the league to make it more competitive from next year.
The Lanka Premier League was started in 2020 and has since been played with five teams. This T20 tournament has nurtured a lot of young talents from Sri Lanka, like Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana.
The fifth edition of the Lanka Premier League recently concluded in Sri Lanka, where many ICC officials were present, including ICC chairman Greg Barclay and over 100 ICC board members.
The final of LPL 2024 was played between the Galle Marvels and the Jaffna Kings, with the latter clinching their fourth title. In recognition of LPL’s international status, Greg Barclay, alongside Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister Harin Fernando, presented the trophy to the victorious captain, Charith Asalanka.
Kane Williamson, David Miller to Play in LPL
Building on the success of the Lanka Premier League, next year might see the introduction of a new team. According to reports, some big names like David Miller and Kane Williamson might be part of the new team.
Both Kane Williamson and David Miller are some of the biggest superstars in T20 cricket, and their presence in the tournament will only elevate the status of the Lanka Premier League, attracting more attention from around the world.
