Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has opened up about the Indian cricket team’s stance of not travelling to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Notably, Pakistan has received the hosting rights for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, marking the first time in many years that Pakistan will host such a major ICC event.
While other major cricketing nations like Australia, England, and New Zealand are all set to travel to Pakistan for the tournament, the Indian cricket team is unlikely to participate in the marquee event in the neighboring nation.
India Can Continue Making Excuses: Shahid Afridi
India and Pakistan do not play bilateral cricket due to political tensions. While India last traveled to Pakistan in 2008, the Men in Green visited India last year during the ODI World Cup 2023.
Addressing this situation, Shahid Afridi noted that Pakistan traveled to India last year despite receiving threats. He stated that if India is not keen on traveling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025, they can continue making excuses.
Here is what Shahid Afridi said:
“If India does not have the intention of coming to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, then they will continue to make excuses. Yet, the Pakistan cricket team toured India despite threats.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board has left it to the International Cricket Council to convince the Indian cricket team to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. However, it is highly unlikely that the Indian government will permit Team India to travel to Pakistan.
