A meeting between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and all 10 IPL owners took place on July 31, where they discussed the rules and guidelines for the IPL 2025 mega auction, including the number of retentions.
Meanwhile, reports have emerged that almost all the franchises are against the mega auction that is said to happen before IPL 2025. They don’t want a mega auction to happen in the future either.
Notably, this is because many franchises have nurtured some players and don’t want to lose them. They want their core to remain intact. Hence, many teams prefer a smaller auction rather than having a mega option even in IPL 2025.
Ness Wadia, Shah Rukh Khan Argue Over Retentions
On the other hand, it has been reported that the co-owner of Punjab Kings, Ness Wadia, and the co-owner of the IPL 2024 champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan, have argued over the number of retentions in the IPL 2025 auction.
While Shah Rukh Khan wants more retentions, Ness Wadia is in favour of fewer retentions. However, the final decision will be taken by the BCCI.
