In the rapidly changing cricket landscape, it’s clear that the Indian Premier League and its franchises are spreading their influence, and dominance by acquiring teams in various international T20 leagues.

However, for the first time in cricket history, a county cricket club is being acquired by a private firm as the Delhi Capitals are set to purchase Hampshire for a whopping £120 million, acquiring a majority stake in the club.

The latest reports suggest that the GMR Group will achieve full ownership of Hampshire and take a 51% stake in The Hundred’s Southern Brave. The Delhi Capitals had to surpass the Lucknow Super Giants to finalize the acquisition.

GMR’s global cricket portfolio includes a 50% stake in the Delhi Capitals, which they shared with JSW. The company also has a 50% share in the ILTT20 team Dubai Capitals and the MLC franchise Seattle Orcas.
