In the latest update, IPL teams have collectively requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to enforce a two-year ban on overseas players who pull out of the tournament post-auction.

This appeal is in response to the issues IPL teams have faced, where marquee players have pulled out of the tournament despite being chosen in the auction, disturbing the team’s overall balance.

Recently, players such as Jason Roy, Alex Hales, and Wanindu Hasaranga have pulled out of the tournament after being selected in the IPL option, citing personal reasons rather than injuries.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad CEO Kavya Maran expressed her thoughts, highlighting that players often back out, which disrupts the team’s overall balance, as they put a lot of effort and money in them.

The final decision now rests with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which is expected to announce the rules and regulations for the IPL 2025 mega auction by the last week of August.

BCCI to Increase Number of Retention for IPL 2025 Mega Auction?

Furthermore, it has been reported that the majority of teams are against a mega auction, favouring a mini auction to keep their core team intact.

On the other hand, some teams have requested the BCCI to increase the number of retentions. In the previous mega auction before IPL 2022, the BCCI allowed a maximum of four retentions, and teams are now asking for this limit to be raised to six.
