The ongoing situation in Bangladesh has prompted the International Cricket Council (ICC) to reassess its decision to award Bangladesh the hosting rights for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

With widespread protests, internet outages, and curfews, player security has become a major concern, making it increasingly unlikely that Bangladesh will retain the hosting rights for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

According to various reports, the International Cricket Council has begun exploring alternative venues, with India being one of the options under consideration. Sri Lanka and UAE are other two options ICC is exploring.

“The ICC is closely monitoring developments in coordination with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), their security agencies and our own independent security consultants. Our priority is the safety and well-being of all participants,” a spokesperson for ICC was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Following violent protests and an attack on her official residence, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country on Monday (August 5).
