Pakistan has announced its 17-player squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, along with a four-day red-ball match against Bangladesh A, with Shan Masood retaining the captaincy. 

Meanwhile, the appointment of 28-year-old middle-order batter Saud Shakeel as vice-captain of the Pakistan Test team is the most significant takeaway from the squad announcement.

Shakeel will captain the Pakistan Shaheens in the four-day match, assuming the role of Shan Masood’s deputy from pacer Shaheen Afridi

“Saud takes over from Shaheen Shah Afridi as part of the selectors’ strategic decision that is aimed at managing Pakistan’s lead fast bowler’s workload management during the period from 21 August 2024 to 5 April 2025 in which Pakistan is scheduled to play nine Tests, 14 T20Is and, at least, 17 ODIs,” the PCB release read regarding the change in the leadership group.

For wicketkeeping duties, the Pakistan Cricket Board has selected experienced players Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mohammed Rizwan in the 17-member squad.

When Will the Pakistan vs Bangladesh Test Series Start?

The series will kick off with the first Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The tour’s second and final game will be held at Karachi’s National Stadium starting August 30. This series is part of the World Test Championship Cycle 2023-25.
