The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is working to establish communication with the interim government officials in hopes of securing the rights to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which is set to take place this October.

For the first time, Bangladesh will host the Women’s T20 World Cup. The tournament is set to begin on October 3, with the final scheduled for October 20. However, the country is currently facing political instability following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and departure earlier this week.

“We had communicated with them [the Army] but by that time the [interim] government had already been formed. Since it has been formed, they will place priority on it as required,” BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told The Daily Star.

“We have communicated with them and the sooner we get a response the better we will understand the situation. We had communicated with them very late yesterday [Thursday] and there was very little time for them to go through it,” he added.

According to the latest reports, the ICC is closely monitoring Bangladesh’s situation while also exploring other potential venues. This is in case they need to relocate the tournament if the BCB fails to organize it effectively.
