Ex-Indian cricket coach Rahul Dravid disclosed the toughest moment of his coaching career, and surprisingly, it wasn’t Team India’s loss in the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

Rahul Dravid has admitted that failing to win a Test series in South Africa is the lowest point of his coaching career, especially since India has never secured a Test series victory there.

After being appointed as India’s head coach in November 2021, Dravid’s first significant challenge was the South Africa tour.

The series started on a positive note, with India securing a historic win in Centurion, raising hopes for their first-ever series victory there.

However, the series took a heartbreaking turn as India lost 2-1. Here’s what Dravid said on that heartbreaking series defeat:

“If you ask me what is the lowest point, I would say that the South Africa Test series early on in my career. We won the first Test match in South Africa in Centurion, and then we played in the second and third Test matches. We have never won a series in South Africa, as you know. It was a really big opportunity for us to win that series. Some of our senior players were not there.”

What’s Next for Rahul Dravid?

According to multiple reports, Rahul Dravid has been approached by Rajasthan Royals to assume the role of director of cricket, as Kumar Sangakkara is reportedly set to become the head coach of the England cricket team.
