The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has made Chris Woakes pull out from The Hundred 2024 to prepare for the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka, following captain Ben Stokes’ hamstring injury.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the experienced swing bowler had been made unavailable for the Birmingham Phoenix’s last two games in The Hundred 2024.
Woakes was scheduled to feature in Birmingham Phoenix’s last two group-stage matches of The Hundred 2024, against Trent Rockets on Monday and Manchester Originals on Thursday, both at Edgbaston.
However, the ECB made him unavailable for both matches due to ‘workload management’, though England has denied any connection to the skipper’s injury.
Ben Stokes to Miss Sri Lanka Series?
The Test captain of England cricket team, Ben Stokes hobbled off the field during the match between Northern Superchargers and Manchester Originals at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday, after finishing a run.
There are also reports suggesting that Ben Stokes could miss the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Ollie Pope, the vice-captain of the England cricket team, might step up as captain for the series.
