The Australian Test captain has been given rest from Australia’s white-ball tours of Scotland and England next month. He is now looking for a return to the Sheffield Shield to prepare for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in November.
Notably, for the first time in 32 years, India and Australia will play a five-match Test series against each other in Australia. It will be a challenging series given the firepower both teams have in this long-standing rivalry.
Pat Cummins does not want to enter the series without proper preparation or leave any stone unturned. He wants to fine-tune everything before heading into the competitive series.
Cummins also stated the number of domestic matches he plans on participating in as preparation for the demanding series later in the year, as well as their two-match Test tour to Sri Lanka, which is set to kick off in February next year.
“I’d say it’s either two or three ODIs, plus a Shield [game] or maybe just some Shield, maybe some NSW one-day stuff. I imagine kind of late October/early November will be when I start playing, building up for the Tests,” Cummins told NewsCorp.
The upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka and India will determine Australia’s fate in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle—whether they will make it to the final and defend their title as World Test Champions.
