The young West Indian fast bowler, Shamar Joseph made a memorable home Test debut, claiming an impressive five-wicket haul on the first day of the second Test against South Africa in Guyana.

The 24-year-old, who missed the opening Test, shattered the backbone of the Proteas’ lineup by taking the wickets of Aiden Markram and captain Temba Bavuma in a single over, triggering a collapse. 

The youngster then sent a well-set David Bedingham back to the pavilion for 28 and then took his fourth wicket by dismissing Keshav Maharaj for a two-ball duck. 

Joseph capped off his five-wicket haul by bowling out wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne for 21, and he celebrated with a jubilant run in front of the ecstatic home crowd. 

Impressive Start to Shamar Joseph’s Test Career

It was Shamar Joseph’s third five-wicket haul in just his sixth match. He first claimed figures of 5/94 on debut against Australia in Adelaide earlier this year.

Joseph then delivered a sensational 7/68 in the final innings of the second Test in Brisbane, leading the West Indies to a memorable eight-wicket victory, levelling the two-Test series 1-1.
