Australian spinner Nathan Lyon is set on clinching the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the upcoming series. During the 2018-19 season, the Virat Kohli-led side stunned Australia by winning the four-match series 2-1, and they repeated the feat in the 2020-21 season.
In 2023, Australia went to India seeking revenge but ended up with a heavy 1-3 series defeat. As India is expected to travel to Australia later in the year for the five-match Test series, Australia is determined to give it back to India and finish the series on a high.
Ahead of the much-anticipated series, the Australian spinner, Nathan Lyon labelled it ‘unfinished business’ and conveyed his deep ‘hunger’ to rectify past defears and bring the trophy home to Australia.
“It’s been 10 years of unfinished business. It’s been a long time. I know I’m extremely hungry to turn things around and make sure we get that trophy back, that’s for sure,” Lyon told AAP.
Notably, this will be the first time Australia hosts India for a five-match Test series, which could mean the pacers will need rest. Josh Hazlewood, a leading pacer, has hinted that he will be available for all the matches but assured that there are many alternatives available if the team needs them.
“There’s a few factors there, but I’m always planning to play all five (Tests). I think with a bowling captain as well, he can be a lot smarter in that regard in terms of maybe throwing the ball to Travis Head for an over here or there and Cameron Green and Mitch Marsh. We’ve got a lot of extra bowlers there as well,” Hazlewood said.
