Rashid Khan, the Afghan spin maestro, has opted to continue his protest against Australia by withdrawing from the Big Bash League for a second consecutive season.
Rashid Khan has not put his name in the draft ahead of the 2024-25 Big Bash League (BBL) season. The leg-spinner has represented Adelaide Strikers for several years in Australia’s T20 league.
As per an AAP report, Rashid Khan’s management has informed the Adelaide Strikers about his decision to skip the tournament. The franchise has no hard feelings and is open to welcoming him back in the next season.
The ace leg-spinner was unhappy by Cricket Australia’s (CA) decision to cancel a bilateral series with Afghanistan, which was influenced by the Taliban’s policies on women’s rights.
It’s not only Rashid Khan who has withdrawn; fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq also left the tournament early last year and has decided to opt out of future Big Bash League seasons after Australia’s cancelled the bilateral series against Afghanistan.
