Former Australian cricketer David Warner has committed to playing a full season in the BBL after signing a new two-year contract with Sydney Thunder. Additionally, Steve Smith has secured a new three-year deal to continue with Sydney Sixers.
Warner, who played eight games for Thunder in his last two BBL seasons, will now have an open schedule for the BBL following his retirement from international cricket. He is also expected to play the entire tournament.
“Davey is popular wherever he plays, right around the world, particularly in India and I know the South Asian communities in Sydney’s west will get right behind him at Thunder,” Trent Copeland, the Thunder general manager was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“In Davey we get a world-class talent with almost 20 years of T20 experience and now that he has retired from international cricket, we can count on his full focus and commitment for the entire tournament, including the finals,” he added.
Moreover, Steve Smith is scheduled to play four games for the Sydney Sixers in the tournament, one of which might be a face-off against Sydney Thunder, where he could face David Warner.
