Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has expressed confidence in seasoned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s ability to stay focused during the two-match Test series against Pakistan, despite the ongoing political turmoil back home.
For those unaware, Bangladesh is currently facing intense political upheaval, with Prime Minister Hasina Sheikh stepping down and fleeing the country amidst protests against the reservation system.
Shakib, a vital member of the national cricket team, was also a Member of Parliament in the recently dissolved government. Despite no longer holding a political role, the all-rounder remains committed to participating in all international matches.
“I don’t think it will affect him because he’s a professional cricketer, and we all treat him as such. He has played this game for so long that he knows his role and how to prepare himself. I am not thinking about his political career, and I hope he will do something special in this series,” Shanto said during the pre-match press conference.
‘Toss is going to be crucial’ – Najmul Hossain Shanto
Bangladesh has managed to win only one Test match in the current World Test Championship cycle and is currently placed eighth in the standings. The Bangladesh captain also discussed the significance of the toss in the match.
“The toss is very important. The players are ready for both batting and bowling, but it’s crucial. Personally, I am not thinking about the toss because, as players, we have to be ready for every single situation,” he concluded.
Furthermore, Bangladesh has never won a Test match against Pakistan in the history of Test cricket, with both teams facing off 13 times, where Pakistan won 12 matches and one ended in a draw.
