Steve Smith, the Australian batting icon, has revealed his retirement plans, mentioning that he isn’t ready to call it quits just yet.
Since taking over at the top order after David Warner’s retirement, Steve Smith has failed to live up to expectations with the bat.
Even though he’s going through a rough patch, Steve Smith is confident about playing in the next Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled in Australia, and is eager to take on India once more in this fierce contest.
“I don’t have any retirement plans. I’m looking forward to the Border Gavaskar Trophy. India is going to be a great challenge, they’re a very good side. We’re the two best Test teams in the world,” Smith said.
India has been on top in recent Border-Gavaskar Trophies, clinching the last four series against Australia. They are set to seek a third consecutive series win in Australia when the tour kicks off in November 2024.
Steve Smith has an impressive record against India, with 2,042 runs in 19 Tests at an average of 65.87, including 9 centuries.
In addition to Steve Smith, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon are also eagerly anticipating the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Pat Cummins has even taken a month off from cricket to prepare for this highly anticipated series.
