The first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh in Rawalpindi was delayed for over four hours due to a wet outfield from overnight rain. However, when play finally started, Bangladesh got a tight grip on the game with the new ball.

In less than nine overs, the visitors took three wickets, one of which was Babar Azam’s second-ball duck, leaving Pakistan in trouble. Captain Shan Masood also fell in the 7th over for six runs following a controversial call by third umpire Michael Gough.

Shoriful Islam, who also dismissed Babar Azam for a two-ball duck, bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that sharply curved back, surprising the Pakistan captain.

Masood attempted to play the ball to mid-off but missed, with the ball going between bat and pad. Bangladesh players celebrated a possible caught-behind dismissal, but umpire Adrian Holdstock did not give it out.

The visiting captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, reviewed the decision, and replays revealed the ball was very close to the bat with a slight flicker on the snickometer. However, the split view indicated that the ball hit the pad after passing the bat, suggesting there was no edge.

However, third umpire Gough concluded that there was enough evidence to overturn the original decision and ruled Masood out, which left him frustrated. Masood had a heated argument with the umpire, who then told him to go back to the dressing room.
