During the CEAT Awards ceremony in Mumbai on Wednesday (Aug 21), India’s Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma was awarded the Men’s International Cricketer of the Year title.

After receiving the award, Rohit praised the ‘three pillars’—ex-head coach Rahul Dravid, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and Secretary Jay Shah—for their consistent support, attributing India’s historic 2024 T20 World Cup win to their efforts.

After India’s victory in the T20 World Cup, which took place in the West Indies and the USA, Rohit Sharma sent a strong message to the cricketing world, stating that his hunger for more titles with India is far from satisfied.

“It was my dream to transform this team and not worry too much about the stats, the results, to make sure that we create that environment where people can go out there and play freely without thinking too much. That is what was required. I got a lot of help from my three pillars, who are actually Mr Jay Shah, Mr Rahul Dravid (and the) chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar,” Rohit Sharma said in the event.

‘You don’t stop once you get the taste of winning’ – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma further emphasised that his hunger for victory, which has brought him five IPL titles as Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper, remains strong. He warned the cricketing world that India will continue to progress and target more ICC championships.

“There is a reason I won five IPL trophies. I’m not going to stop, because once you get the taste of winning games, winning Cups, you don’t want to stop and we’ll keep pushing as a team. We’ll keep striving for better things in the future.”

Looking ahead to the next ICC event, India’s next assignment is the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will take place in Pakistan early next year. Also, the Men in Blue have a strong opportunity to reach the WTC final in the ongoing 2023-25 cycle, with the finale scheduled for June 2025.
