Pakistan declared their innings at 448 runs after Bangladesh won the toss and put them in to bat in the first Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan experienced a minor collapse in their top order, but Saim Ayub and Saud Shakeel steadied the innings with a 98-run partnership, helping Pakistan recover.
Saim Ayub scored a half-century, and Saud Shakeel contributed 141 runs off 261 deliveries. After Ayub’s dismissal, Shakeel formed a 280-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Mohammad Rizwan.
Rizwan remained unbeaten with 171 runs, while fast bowler Shaheen Afridi added valuable lower-order runs, scoring a quick 29 not out from 24 balls, including one boundary and two sixes.
The left-handed batter aggressively attacked the Bangladesh spinners from the word go. He showed no mercy to veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, launching a powerful six straight down the ground.
The incident happened in the 109th over of Pakistan’s first innings when Shaheen had just come in after Salman’s dismissal. Shakib, bowling around the wicket, adjusted his length as Shaheen advanced down the pitch.
Although the ball was delivered wide of the off stump, it was still within Shaheen’s range, and he dispatched it for a six straight over Shakib’s head.
