Indian wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul found himself at the center of controversy in 2019 when he appeared on an episode of Koffee with Karan with host Karan Johar, alongside his friend and Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

The comments made by Hardik Pandya led to a major controversy, resulting in both players being suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Later, they had to return to India from Australia mid-tour.

In a podcast on Nikhil Kamath’s YouTube channel, featuring Kriti Sanon and Badshah, Rahul opened up about the controversy, revealing that it had a profound impact on him. He stated that the experience had scarred him and changed him completely as a person.

“The interview was a different world. That changed me. Completely changed me. I was a very soft-spoken person growing up. Then I played for India and became very confident. People will know I have been in a room with 100 people.”

“Now I don’t because that interview scared me massively. Getting suspended from the team—I had never been suspended or punished in school. I don’t know how to handle it. I did mischief in school but nothing that led to expulsion or involved my parents,” he added.

KL Rahul Open Ups on Trolling

KL Rahul further discussed the trolling he has faced, admitting that he initially believed he was unaffected by it. However, he later realized that it did take a toll on him.

“I used to be good with trolling. I thought I didn’t care. I was much younger back then. A couple of years ago, I was exposed to a lot of trolling. Whether I sat or stood, I got trolled,” he said.

KL Rahul is currently preparing for the upcoming season of the Duleep Trophy 2024, where he has been selected to play under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. He aims to make a strong comeback in time for the Bangladesh Test series.
