Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have reached out to Suryakumar Yadav with a captaincy offer for the 2025 IPL season, Sportskeeda reported on August 24. 

Ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League mega auction, Kolkata Knight Riders are expected to part ways with Shreyas Iyer. 

Suryakumar Yadav was once a key player for Kolkata Knight Riders before they released him, after which he joined Mumbai Indians and became an integral part of their team.

However, Suryakumar Yadav’s standing has skyrocketed after he assumed the role of T20 International captain for the Indian cricket team, taking over from Rohit Sharma.

In fact, Suryakumar Yadav was widely considered the favourite to replace Rohit Sharma as captain of Mumbai Indians, but unexpectedly, Hardik Pandya was brought in and named captain for IPL 2024. 

This decision didn’t sit well with Rohit, Suryakumar, and Jasprit Bumrah, the three senior members of the franchise. Rohit and Suryakumar are expected to leave Mumbai Indians before the mega auction. 

Suryakumar Yadav has played 150 IPL matches, scoring 3,594 runs at an average of 32.38 and a strike rate of 145.33. His impressive career includes 2 hundreds, 24 fifties, 385 boundaries, and 130 maximums.
