Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali suggests that Shaheen Afridi should be rested, as his recent performance in the 10-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in the opening Test was below expectations.
Shaheen Afridi managed to secure just two wickets in the first innings of the opening Test against Bangladesh, but he gave away a whopping 88 runs.
The left-arm pacer struggled with the new ball but managed to take two wickets towards the tail end. His first dismissal was Mehidy Hasan Miraz, followed by Hasan Mahmud, who was out for a duck after facing 18 balls.
“Shaheen Afridi should be rested 100 per cent. He should go and play first-class cricket. He should be rested. Ali S put in a lot of effort. Pakistan failed in bowling, fielding and batting. They beat us in all departments. It is wrong to say that the team had a bad day,” Basit Ali said on his YouTube channel.
Besides his on-field issues, Shaheen Afridi has shown a lack of courtesy towards coaches and teammates, as reported by head coach Gary Kristen.
It will be interesting to see whether Shaheen Afridi plays in the second Test or is given a rest.
