The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated that Shakib Al Hasan will remain a part of the national team until proven guilty, even though his name appears in FIR related to a murder case.
Shakib, along with 146 others, has been named in a First Information Report (FIR) for alleged involvement in a murder that occurred during anti-government protests, which happened in Bangladesh in August.
The BCB recently received a legal notice against Shakib from a Supreme Court lawyer representing a man whose father was allegedly murdered, with the all-rounder being named in the FIR related to the case.
The legal notice demanded that the cricketer be dropped from the Bangladesh team, as per the regulations of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
However, BCB president Faruque Ahmed has confirmed that Shakib will remain in the Bangladesh team.
“He [Shakib] will continue playing. We received a legal notice regarding bringing him back, and we replied to them,” Ahmed told newspaper Prothom Alo.
“The Bangladesh team will go to India after the Pakistan series, and we want him in that series as well. He is our contracted player, and if necessary, we will provide him with legal assistance.”
Meanwhile, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets in the opening Test, marking their first-ever Test victory against Pakistan. Now, they will aim to win the second Test and complete a clean sweep.
Shakib Al Hasan Will Not Return to Bangladesh
Shakib Al Hasan will not return to Bangladesh after the second Test against Pakistan, which concludes on 3 September. Instead, he will head to England to participate in a four-day match for Surrey. Afterward, he will travel to India for a two-match series starting on 19 September.
